Are you an entrepreneur having trouble reaching your target market? Are you posting on social media each week with little to no engagement? Do you need help getting in front of your audience?
If you answered "yes!" to any of these questions, it may be time to take a distinctive approach to the way you think about marketing your content.
Content marketing is a form of marketing focused on creating, publishing, and distributing content for a targeted audience online. The goal of content marketing is to attract your desired customers by distributing free and valuable content that relates to your business.
Here's how you can get started on your content strategy:
1) Know the goal of your content strategy. What is your goal? What do you hope to accomplish? What is the purpose? In order to make the best use of your time and content, understand the purpose of your content and how you want our audience to engage with it.
2) Know your audience. In order to know your audience, answer the following the questions:
- What do they do for work?
- What is their age range?
- Where do they live?
- What do they value?
- What are their challenges?
- What are their goals?
- How can you help them solve their challenges?
- How do they find out about new products or services?
3) Develop a plan. You can create a content strategy plan by creating an excel spreadsheet with the following headers:
- Date: The date you'll post the content.
- Time: The time you'll post the content.
- Type: What type of content you're going to post - video, quote, photo, instastory, etc.
- Link to content: A direct link to the content so that it is easily accessible.
- Caption: What you're going to put in your caption.
- Notes: Any additional information you want to include or make not of as it relates to this post.
4) Review your results and do it again! Determine your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), which are the activities you decide are most indicative of your growth, and block off two - three hours at the end of each week to review the results of your plan. You can measure activities like engagement, reach, likes, comments, follows, shares, saves, retweets, reposts, opens, clicks, etc.
As a Founder, I understand how difficult it is to manage social media, strategy, operations, human resources and so forth. If you're a founder that's currently in this position, I'm hoping this simple content strategy overview will help you create content without taking up too much of your time.
